FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 10, 2019
MISSISSAUGA - After decades of being stuck in gridlock and red tape, the Ontario government for the people made a commitment to the people of Ontario that they would build transit and get them moving. Today the government for the people announced their vision for transit. Helping cities like Mississauga move into the 21st century.
Transit users and commuters in Mississauga and across Ontario can look forward to transportation improvements as part of the Government of Ontario's historic new transportation vision, Premier Doug Ford announced today.
"Our government is investing in transportation to bring relief and new opportunities to transit users and commuters," said Premier Doug Ford.
“This is exciting news for the people of Mississauga, as one of the investments in transit will connect the city through the Hurontario LRT” said Kaleed Rasheed, Member of Provincial Parliament for Mississauga East-Cooksville.
The long promised one street LRT by local government for a decade, will now be a reality. Our government took the liberty of making the Hurontario LRT a reality. Mississagans will now have access to the LRT which will connect them from Mississauga Centre, to Mississauga East-Cooksville, and all the way to Brampton.
The funding announced today is in addition to the significant contributions made to transportation in Ontario. In just 9 months, Ontario has delivered the first ever expansion of GO Train service to Niagara falls, years ahead of schedule; dramatically enhanced GO Train service to Kitchener Waterloo region; committed billions to new transit projects for Hamilton and Ottawa regions; moved ahead with the long awaited LRTs for Mississauga, and announced $1.3 billion to repair and rebuild highways across the provinces as well as billions in infrastructure to better support our rural communities.
“The Hurontario LRT is a game changer for Mississauga. The project will deliver transit, faster for the people and transform a city that has already grown exponentially,” said MPP Rasheed. “I know how important this is to the community of Mississauga East-Cooksville. You can count on our government to deliver on our promises. This transit plan is a plan for the people.”
It's time to get people off the roads and out of gridlock so that we can get you to work on time, to home faster and to family and friends sooner.
This plan and vision will get the people of Mississauga out of gridlock and where they want to go.
